Summer Update

So camping was fun. We had a blast and even though our air mattress popped, for two nights- we survived. Since then, things have been quite busy around here, as summers typically get. We've had family picnics, parties with friends and other events that have kept our weekends swamped so I haven't had much time to put together a blog post. I do have a recipe I want to share, but I'm perfecting it.

In the meantime, I also started up kickboxing again.  Those that know me, know that I used to take a kickboxing class a couple times of week before I had a major operation/health issue last year. It's been hard getting back into since for a couple of reasons.  I put on more than few pounds because I haven't been all that active since the surgery. The other thing I notice is that my stamina isn't what it used to be.  I used to be able to do 50 push ups and 100 crunches after a full cardio workout no problem. Now, I'm lucky if I can make it through the cardio part, let alone the lone 10 push ups I can do. I know I'll get back to where I was, but it's so frustrating because I know what I used to be able to do. I know there are more than a few of you out there that can relate. So I've been trying to watch what I eat and I'm starting out slow with the classes, once a week, and trying to do other active things in the meantime.

I also have time for a quick book review update. I just finished Swamplandia! By Karen Russell.  This type of book isn't normally my thing.  It had a hint of science fiction to it, but I thought it was well written. It's a good summer read.

Weekend Fun..

Finally, it's almost the weekend! We have some fun plans, looks like we are going camping.  I haven't been camping since I was a kid, so it should be interesting.  It will be nice to relax and unplug even if it is just for a few days. I will try to post later a chicken recipe I made this week that was pretty amazing.

Summer Reading

So it's no secret to anyone that knows me.  But I love to read. Not only do I work full time, but am pursuing my love of books and all things reading and studying for a Masters of Library Science degree.  Of course, work and school seriously cuts into reading time..lol, but I squeeze it in when I can. I typically finish a book every couple of weeks, so this blog would be a great place to share my thoughts on my latest reads.  I'm also a library thing member so if you want to catch up on the complete list, you can find it here.

I just finished, The Memory Palace by Mira Bartok.  It was a fascinating account on growing up and living with a schizophrenic mother.  I love memoirs, especially ones involving family relationships and this was a great book. I think my next couple of books may be some lighter reads, considering it's summer and most of my reading will be poolside...

My plan is to catch up on some Kristin Hannah novels.  Chick Lit is my guilty pleasure.  I read Firefly Lane for one of book clubs and was surprised by how addictive it got at the end, I couldn't put it down! I recently read Night Road and the same thing happened, it was one of those "just one more chapter, leads to finishing the book hours later" type of reads. I just picked up True Colors from the library. Stay tuned for my thoughts on that. The other thing I'm loving about Kristin Hannah, I've sobbed my eyes out after finishing those books. Nothing like a good cry every once in awhile.

Welcome...

Hello all. Thanks for stopping by.  I'm not sure what or where this blog will take me, but I hope you enjoy.  I'll be posting about everything I love, including cupcakes and flip flops. I hope to share some insights on my life and  interests and hopefully you will be interested too. :)
